Tuesday Newsday: It’s Heart Month

Tuesdaynewsday-hearts.jpg

February is Heart Month and when many of us celebrate Valentine’s Day.  Give your heart something to smile about this month.  Hearts are one of the most important organs in one’s body.  The heart circulates an enormous amount of blood every minute.  Some people say it pumps almost 2 gallons of blood throughout the body every minute.  A normal heart is about the size of two hands clasped together.

People can die of a broken heart.  Therefore, make sure you are keeping your heart happy and healthy.  A happy heart has proven to reduce heart disease.  Studies have found that the more education someone has the lower the risk of heart disease.  Regular exercise is one of the single most important keys to a healthy heart.  Also, managing your diet appropriately can help reduce heart disease.  If you can have a glass of wine, studies have shown that white or red can help the heart.

Finally, managing your daily stress may reduce heart issues.  Today, many of us have a difficult time dealing with email, voicemail, text messages and so on.   These technologies have changed our lives in both positive and negative ways.  Knowing how to manage all of these issues and not being stressed could result in a healthier heart.  Exercise is another way of keeping your heart healthy.  Some type of regular exercise will increase your heart rate and may be beneficial.  Walking has been shown in studies to do just as much for your heart as running.  This may also reduce stress.

We hope everyone has a Happy Valentine’s Day!
