Artist of the Month

Nancy Adair

A self-described ‘Navy Brat,’ local artist and freelance interior decorator, Nancy Adair has a background as varied and colorful as her work. Besides her formal training, she actively pursued enhancing techniques by attending workshops and classes in oil and watercolor painting with some of the area’s finest artists – Sandy Sander, Marilyn Wannamaker, Anne Enochs, Lafayette Ragsdale, Fred Rawlings and others.

A turning point in her development occurred after a visit to Murano, Italy, which peaked her desire to work with glass. She learned fused glass techniques by studying with Jan Singer and Teresa White. She discovered the ancient art of encaustic painting (pigmented hot wax ‘painted’ with a heat gun).

Nancy does not limit herself to any one medium. Whether depicting large floral oil paintings or waterscapes, creating collages or embracing new opportunities in teach art, she has merged experience with self-discovery and allowed her talent to venture beyond normal boundaries.

Nancy lives in Germantown and is an active member and past president of the Bartlett Art Association. Her work can be found through out Oregon, Washington, South Dakota, Minnesota and the southern states.

Ave Maria is looking for adult volunteers with good communication and interpersonal skills to be “Sages” in our new Green House® Homes. An important volunteer in our Green Houses, the Sage advocates for the elders, is in tune with the rhythm of the house for elders and staff, and concerned that every elder in the house has the best possible life. If you have experience helping groups work well together and enjoy spending time with elders, please contact Caralena Lawrence, Green House Guide, at 901-386-3211, ext. 2011

Artist of the Month
Ann Lambert

Ann is relatively new to the art world, having begun painting just 3 1/2 years ago. While she has had some minimal instructions, she is basically a self-taught artist, by taking on new projects that challenge her ability and cause her to stretch her skills. Acrylics are the primary medium she uses.

Ann has lived in Collierville for the last 28 years but is a native of New Orleans with a long family history in that city. She began drawing on her Louisiana roots in her early paintings, recreating water birds that inhabit the marshes and waterways of the state. Her earlier works mainly featured animals, first birds, then family pets, fish, horses of friends, and barn animals. She has also drawn on images she has seen in her travels around the country, which helped her develop a series of old barns many from upstate New York and the southern country side.

Ann’s subject material is reflective of her own likes and interest and not done for commercial purpose. She has painted a series of faceless ladies in which the observer can often imagine the face of a child or friend that is captured by the painting.

Painting is a hobby for Ann and her artwork fills the homes of family and friends. As her talent and ability have grown, more people have sought her out for specific projects. Always looking to take on new challenges, she has provided paintings of two stylized elephants in consecutive years for a “Save the Elephant” fund raiser and contributions to other charitable campaigns.
